Portside's New Training App

Here at Portside Personal Training we care about our clients getting the most out of their workouts and out of their overall programme.

Ensuring that training remains fun and engaging is a top priority whilst ensuring that programmed sessions are always results-driven and super effective!

To help push this along we’ve recently invested in a mobile app that is used by the Portside trainers and our clients.

So… WHAT is it and HOW do I use it?

Think of the app as the one-stop shop that houses everything from your bespoke training programmes, nutrition packs, progress tracking, in-app messaging with your trainer as well as connecting third-party apps and devices such as Apple Watch and FitBit… pretty neat, huh?

Your trainer at Portside will get you set up with an account, you'll then get an email prompt to create your account, once this is created, you're good to go! Upon completion, you will be greeted with your Dashboard.. so let’s jump in!

In here you will be able to see your progress. It has sections for each progress point which updates each and every day, you will expect to see:

  • Steps

  • Sleep

  • Body Weight

  • Body Fat

  • Photos

  • Caloric Intake

  • Resting HR

  • Blood Pressure

  • Lean Body Mass

  • Caloric Burn

NB. for most of these to update, they WILL have to be connected to either your Apple/FitBit device and for nutritional information to MyFitnessPal. Some other sections such as photos and blood pressure can be inputted manually for example.

At the bottom of all of this information you'll see your achievements and badges earned from when you complete certain activities and set workouts! We all like earning achievements, right?!

Everything you do from inputting data, workouts, photos etc. will be logged in your calendar. It's a useful feature for you and your trainer to see what you've done in the past and also what you have planned in the future. You can manually add either a:

  • Workout

  • Activity (cardio, walk, etc.)

  • Photos

  • Body Statistics

This is done by clicking the blue + button in the lower right corner of the screen on your device. You can also choose the day/date here too.

Now, on to the fun bit!

In this section, you'll see your workout programme that will have been designed for you by your trainer. It will show at the top which phase you are currently in, the duration and a drop-down list of your workouts.

Upon clicking on one of your workouts you will be greeted with your exercises, videos of each, how many reps and even set rest periods that are taken between sets/exercises! It is super easy to use, click the blue start now button at the bottom of the screen and then log your workout as you work through it!

This is of course if you are training outside of your sessions here at Portside. If you are in your PT session with your trainer, we'll be logging all of this for you on our devices so that you can focus on getting your workout done.

It's a fun and engaging way of tracking progress both for you and your PT. Keeping both accountable and ensuring that everything that can be logged and measured is better managed!

Why don’t you try and add a workout in too, have a play around with this section and see how you get on. A challenge to participate and log activities away from your sessions at HQ!

The next section is where you can create and log your goals, both short term and long term. By setting these, we can then set daily habits to ensure we are on track to reaching the goal.

Now, goals of course are all personal to the individual and are private to the coach and client. This section is great to remind yourself why you are doing what you are doing and to stay on track when things get tough along the journey!

Plus, once we reach a goal, we can continue to set more! It's likely that as you reach your goals, you're already pre-empting or even planning the next. So imagine using this section and looking back at how far you have come, the goals you have reached and habits that you have improved upon or even developed from scratch along the way…

In this section, you will find your Portside Nutrition Guide which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack ideas alongside some vital tips to a healthier lifestyle and better relationship with food for those that struggle.

A nice and easy place to refer to should you need to. Not forgetting of course our monthly recipe book that you get too… the many benefits of training with us here at Portside.

The final section in the app shows you a summary of your activity, recently earned badges and the ability to connect the devices mentioned at the beginning of this post. Usually, your coach will ask you to connect a relevant device and this will pop up in your messages with easy to follow instructions on how to add the device.

In this section, you will also find your personal details, initial consultation form, notes and an option to upload images/attachments etc.

Alongside all of the great features above. On your ribbon in the app, you will also have the ability to message your coach and vice versa. Any queries or questions, it is a great use to utilise!

We believe it is safe to say that after reading the above and if you are already actively using the app as most of our clients are, you can see why, we as a team made the decision to invest in and use this application.

It is an excellent addition to your arsenal of tools that will help you reach your health and fitness goals. Making the process easier, more fun and ultimately more engaging both in and out of sessions.

For those of you already using this and smashing your workouts, a BIG well done from the team. For those reading this blog that may not yet be a member of Portside. If this sounds like just what you need, get in touch today!

We are based in Hove/Portslade, easily accessible from areas such as Worthing, Shoreham and Brighton.

If this is you, fill out the form on our website for your first session completely FREE and we look forward to welcoming you soon.
